Frequently asked questions

Does the app need internet?

No. TrueNorth Field Lab is designed to work fully offline. Navigation math, scenarios, pace profiles, and field cards are stored locally on your device.

Why does the app ask for notification permission?

Only if you enable declination reminders in Settings. Notifications are scheduled locally via WorkManager — no push servers, no tracking.

How do I export a field card?

Open any field card, tap Export, and choose PDF or image. Files are saved to app cache and shared only when you explicitly use the Android share sheet.

Is this a replacement for a real compass or GPS?

No. TrueNorth Field Lab is an educational workshop for practicing map-and-compass skills. Always cross-check with authoritative maps and certified instruction before field decisions that affect safety.

Response time

We aim to respond within 2–3 business days. For urgent safety matters in the field, contact local emergency services — this app is not an emergency tool.

TrueNorth Field Lab ("the App") is developed and published by FORKOSH_RUSLAN ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Android application.

1. Information we do NOT collect

• No user accounts or login credentials
• No continuous GPS or location tracking
• No analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs
• No sale or sharing of personal data with third parties

2. Information stored locally on your device

The App stores the following data locally using on-device storage (Room database and preferences):

• Skill progress, scenario completions, and course state
• Field cards you create (titles, notes, bearings, coordinates)
• Pace calibration profiles and unit preferences (metric / imperial)
• Compass rose style and haptic settings
• Declination preset and reminder schedule (if enabled)

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or share it.

3. Notifications

If you grant notification permission and enable declination reminders, the App schedules local notifications via Android WorkManager. No notification content is sent to external servers.

4. File exports and sharing

When you export a field card as PDF or image, the file is written to the App's cache directory. Sharing occurs only when you choose an app from the system share sheet. We have no access to shared files.

5. Home-screen widget

The Field Lab widget displays your declination preset and last bearing conversion from local data. The widget does not transmit data over the network.

6. Permissions

POST_NOTIFICATIONS	Optional — used only for local declination reminders you enable in Settings.

The App does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, or storage permissions beyond its own sandbox.

7. Children's privacy

The App is suitable for educational use and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because no personal data is collected, no parental consent mechanism is required.

8. Data retention and deletion

All App data is stored on your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing app data in Android Settings or uninstalling the App. Exported files in your Downloads or shared folders are managed by you.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
